Dog Gift Basket

The Help is a book that grabs you from the beginning and gets you involved in the lives of its characters and their lives. An interesting book from the stand point of the civil rights movement and the treatment of black Americans and how these characters react to that in such diverse ways. A story of courage and triumph in a sad period of our history. Well written and poignant.
Greek Revival Grande Gift

Attractive scale – looks great in my bathroom and easy to read.
Had some trouble callibrating (kept testing it and my weight would go up or down by up to a pound over the course of 5 minutes). Called company and spoke with one of the owners who talked me through another method of callibration.

I would say the scale works pretty well – but you have to recallibrate every time you move it. I’m on a new diet and losing weight every week, so if I stand on the scale in the morning and the number seems a pound high or low, I get back on after a minute or two, and sometimes it has changed by up to a pound. So that’s a little frustrating, but in teh grand scheme of things, and pound either way isn’t a big deal.

I used to have an older hoover but the hoses went on it. This one is not nearly as heavy as the old hoover carpet cleaner. However, it does a very good job cleaning the carpets. Definitely better than the older hoover I had. I can see the difference right after I did the job.

This Twilight series makes me want to puke when I know that the de facto vampire series has already been written by Anne Rice. Are you Twilight fans aware of The Vampire Chronicles? Twilight is akin to Fabio novels for teenie boppers. If you are at all interested in reading the best vampire series that has and more than likely will ever be written, stop wasting your time w/this fluff and check out The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice.
Dog Lover s Gift

I delayed reading The Help because I thought it might be just another maudlin tear-jerker. NOT! This is a fascinating, sometimes funny, sometimes heart-warming, sometimes anger-provoking, always skilfully told story that made real for me an era whose end I saw but, being a child, whose details I never discerned. Meals at my grandparent’s table when I was small were served by Help dressed in starched white uniforms who had their own quarters in case they needed to stay over. The Help always smiled. They played children’s games with me and indulged me when I insisted I was Davy Crockett. I adored them and, when things changed and Grandmother began serving meals herself, I wondered why. I always assumed The Help were happy working for Grandmother ….. but maybe not. Ms. Stockett made me revisit my pediatric assumptions. Good. We should all make a habit of doing so. The Help is an important book and, to make things better, I loved it.

From the other reviews, i was expecting to have my socks knocked off as I had in “The Glass Castle” by Jeannette Walls and “Replay” by Ken Grimwood, but instead I found that I was pleasantly entertained. No more. No less. The most impressive parts of this book were Sara’s portrayal of the elderly. I imagine that life for the elderly is pretty much as she portrays it, which I found enlightening and interesting. These parts ended up being my favorite! The rest of the book is colorful, imaginative, and worthwhile.
