This is clearly a teen book and not aimed at adults, but I discovered it on a list of books for “those who were going through Harry Potter withdrawals.”

It isn’t Harry Potter by any stretch of the imagination. And it isn’t perfect. But it is very readable and with the exception of the over-the-top dwarf character (Mulch Diggums) it is constructed well enough that the story is fun and surprising.

I’ve read through the third book now and have ordered the fourth. They are not great works of art, but certainly readable and worth buying.

This is the most beautiful love story ever written!!!! Its a story about what brings her to find this love of her life…and its sooooo beautifully written about her love for Edward!!!

I got this book not because I had any particularly strong interest in the topic (it was interesting enough) but because of all the buzz. I am very glad I did.

Like many other reviewers said, this book was a pleasure to read. It was a page turner and if I didn’t have a kid and full time job I would’ve finished this in 3 days. The pacing felt right and, though the topic is a serious one, the author manages to write a story that doesn’t feel overly heavy. You fall in love with the characters and you really feel a range of emotions while reading. I love stories that can access my emotions in that way.

I can understand the issues that some readers had with this. I had felt something similar when I read Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, a love story between 2 Asian Americans during the Japanese internment in WW2. As an Asian American I saw issues that the majority of readers did not see, but in the end I did appreciate the book for the important story about racism and the emotions. In Kathryn Stockett’s message at the end of the book she talks about why she wanted to tell this story, and she is humble in her assertion that she doesn’t presume she understands what it was like to be a black woman in Mississippi in the 60s. She just wanted to try and understand, and to tell the story she had always wanted to know more about herself. After reading that I felt much more empathy…in fact, I feel great admiration for her attempt to give voice to this story knowing the reactions she could get about race.

The main issue I had with the book is that, while I was reading it, I felt, “This has made-for-movie written all over it.” (and sure enough, when I checked, a movie was in production) I do feel that some of the characters are somewhat caricature-ish – Minny, for example, I feel I have seen more than once on tv or in the movies (she reminds me of the maid in the Jeffersons)- and the story has a kind of predictable flow and plot that lend itself easily to the big screen.

I purchased this item for my birthday and I absolutely love it. I am still learning about all the features but this was definitely a great purchase for me.

Please do not let your children read this book. Skim through it for yourself and you will see that it is not a conversation with God at all. Beware!

The Kindle restored my love of reading. It is so simple to purchase a book, and you can have more than one book with you and read what you are in the mood for. I have minimum of three books at one time. Super product.

I loved this book & frankly, I would give it 10 stars. It was so refreshing to read a book of fiction after reading so many true life crimes. I loved the brilliance of creating a love story between a vampire & a young teenage girl. Quite clever also to have devised a way to write about vampires without the usual repertoire of fangs & forced to sleep in coffins during daylight hours. Of course, the shiny diamond like look that ensures they’re a vampire is abit over the top, but it all worked in this fun, exciting & wonderful love story. I realize this was written most certainly for young adults but I believe it works for any age group, young or old.

I loved the movie as well & actually watched it 3 times when ordinarily I watch movies once. My favorite scene in the movie is when the Cullen clan & Bella are playing baseball to the song “Massive Black Hole” by Muse. I love it when the 3 “bad” vampires are walking across the field! What a sight & that song works so beautifully with the scenes that follow. This was my start to reading the rest of the series back to back, which if you read the first one, you really have to read them all! Sheer pleasure & offered such a new variety of reading material. Everything worked in this book & I wish it had been written when I was a teenager!
